Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono
The launch is a part of a series of activities organized during the president's working visit to West Papua Province, where Yudhoyono and Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono had attended Sail Raja Ampat's peak event on Saturday (Aug 23).
President Yudhoyono and the entourage crossed to Mansinam Island from Manokwari Port by a naval ship at 10.30 am local time.
Mansinam Island is well-known as the first place where two German Evangelist, Carl William Ottow and Gotlob Geissler, arrived in Papuan land on February 5, 1855.
A big Jesus Christ statue and a monument were built on the island as part of the launch of the Christian Evangelism site.
Mansinam Island is located on Doreh Gulf, Southern Manokwarum that can be reached by a 15-minute boat ride from Manokwari Port. The island is also surrounded by white sand beaches and has beautiful coral reefs.
President Yudhoyono and Mrs. Ani Yudhoyono visited Mansinam Island for the first time on January 22, 2009.
Yudhoyono was also scheduled to inaugurate some other public facilities in Papua and West Papua Provinces.
After visiting Manokwari, President Yudhoyono will visit Timor Leste and then will attend the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) to be organized in Bali on August 29-30, 2014. (ant/mar)
